Beast of Blood: Buffalo

Quotes:

"Under normal circumstances the bellow of a buffalo is disagreeably harsh, but on this calm late summer's day the sound echoing through the rocky mountains was imposing and sonorous, like the roaring of a lion in a cage." p. 93

"It was exceptionally long, and no doubt once belonged to the unfortunate buffalo responsible for breaking Four-Eyes's glasses." p. 105

The symbol of the buffalo is used in a ceremonial way when Four-Eyes leaves his re-education and is a symbolizing strength as he grows up. The buffalo was included in the banquet celebrating Four-Eyes and they ate the meat and blood. Luo finds the buffalo tail in Four-Eyes' suitcase with the books. I think that the buffalo is also a symbol for Four-Eyes and his journey with coming of age.
